North East India had witnessed the grand international science festival for the first time in 2024. From November 30 to December 3, 2024, the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati hosted the India International Science Festival (IISF).

About India International Science Festival
IIT Delhi hosted the first IISF, a unique festival of science social involvement, which was started in 2015.The idea for this scientific festival came from the Indian science organization Vijnana Bharati.
With thousands of attendees each year, the India International Science Festival is now the nation’s largest science event. Its goals are to promote scientific collaboration, motivate young people, and use scientific methods to drive economic progress.
In collaboration with Vijnana Bharati, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is coordinating the IISF 2024, which involves some of the Government of India’s major scientific ministries and departments.

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted how science will shape India’s economic destiny. He highlighted the significant advancements the nation has made in areas like digital technology, biotechnology, and space exploration. IISF-2024 would strengthen India’s resolve to become a global manufacturing powerhouse driven by scientific innovation, he said.
IISF Highlights 2024
The many themes offered by ISF are intended to include the general public and scientific communities in a range of conversations and activities. A number of fresh themes have been included this year to cater to the particular requirements of Northeast India.
Made in India, Mega Science and Technology Exhibition, Make for the World, Nari Shakti, Pragya Bharat, and The Taste of the Hills are a few of the major topics.
A variety of exhibitions, panel discussions, and international partnerships will be included in the event with the goal of tackling urgent global issues such as sustainable development, food security, and climate change.
A number of distinguished speakers attended the occasion, including Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences; Dr. N Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR; and Prof. A.K. Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.

IISF 2024 included over 150 technical seminars and panel discussions spread throughout three days across 25 different events. Over 7,000 registered participants attended the technical sessions, and over 400 resource individuals were present, indicating the vast scope of the programs. Nearly all of the guests were interacting with each other in the different exhibition halls.
One of the event’s main highlights was that over half of the competitors in all IISF 2024 activities were from the Northeast. Over 45,000 people are expected to attend IISF 2024 over the course of four days, which equates to over 10,000 people every day on average.
